  1. Polo is a stick-and-ball game played between 
  2. two teams of four on horseback. It originated 
  3. in Iran, spread to India and was first played 
  4. in England 1869. Polo is played on the 
  5. largest field of any game, measuring up to 
  6. 274m (300yards) by 182m (200 yards). A small 
  7. solid ball is struck with the side of a 
  8. long-handled mallet through goals at each end 
  9. of the field. A typical match lasts about an 
  10. hour, and is divided into `chukkas' of 7 (1/2 
  11. minutes each).
